Abbi Mitchell

M.A. (Hons.) Cantab

.M.P.W

I’m a London-born, English writer and cultural historian. I currently live in London, and am a PhD candidate in English at the University of Southampton. My PhD project focuses on using creative history to explore the experiences of queer women during the English witch trials. You can find more about that here!

I also work as a writer, commissioning/senior editor, and researcher for Dorling Kindersley and other publishers. To find out more about my work, click on the links in the menu bar, or shoot me an email.

I am a 2013 graduate of the University of Cambridge with an MA Hons. in History. As an undergraduate, I specialised in American History, writing my dissertation on "Representations of Pocahontas" in American plays in the early 19th century.

In May 2015, I graduated from the MPW Program at the University of Southern California, where I was also an assistant lecturer. I majored in screenwriting (specifically in one-hour drama) and in 2015 was the winner of the Write Brothers Screenplay Contest at the Canada International Film Festival. I’ve also had short stories, flash fiction, nonfiction, and poetry accepted for publication. You can read some of it by clicking here. I also wrote a thesis paper on cultural history, called "Unsexing Themselves: The intersection of historicity and modern gender tropes in the women of Michael Hirst's Vikings."
